I have Diabetes 2,(on metformin & glyburide); Atrial fib.,(on coumadin) and am on levothyroxin to maintain proper thyroid level. I also have Bronchial Asthma - no Rx taken for that. I spray Mag.Chloride on my legs and feet to stop cramps & started taking Magnisium Chloride, only 1/2 tsp. daily and baking soda to maintain a PH of 7+. The baking/bicarb. soda keeps me from shortness of breath and wheezing at night, but at times I have to sleep on 3 pillows.
My question is could either the Magnesium or the Baking Soda be causing me to have violent loose bowel movements? Up to 5 or 6 daily and recently some undigested food was passed. I'm scared to go out for the threat thereof.

Dear Lisa,

I am sorry to hear of your husband's troubles. Pancreatitis is a major infection or inflammation of the pancreas which can be of many causes. The cause must be determined and removed. Diabetics excrete more magnesium that healthy people do, so they are usually deficient. Research is showing that over 70% of diabetics are deficient in magnesium.

And yes, as a type 1 diabetic myself I can tell you that it amazes me that doctors do not heed the vast amounts of research and put all diabetics on magnesium. It is necessary for both type 1 and type 2 diabetics. It is necessary for insulin production in the pancreatic beta cells, and it is necessary for proper functioning of the insulin receptors. As co-author of the book New Paradigms in Diabetic Care and having looked at all the research that's out there on magnesium and having experienced many of its benefits myself, I am astounded that increasing magnesium levels is not recommended to all diabetics.

Magnesium is also necessary in the production and functioning of over 300 enzymes in the body.

Iodine and sodium bicarbonate will do much to aid in the healing process and prevent major organ failure. Please don't think these protocols will only work for type 2 diabetes as this would be a grave mistake. They are beneficial for both types.

This is a critiical situation for you and if you would like to consult directly with Dr. Sircus you can request this by writing to Luciana Valentim at: luciana@imva.info

Sincerely,
Claudia French RN, LPHA
Assistant Director IMVA

How much relationship does this info have to type 1 diabetes? My husband recently had acute pancreatitis which caused his pancreas to stop working entirely (digestive enzymes as well as insulin production). By the time it was caught, he was also suffering liver & kidney issues & his blood electrolytes were dangerously low (especially potassium & calcium, they never mentioned magnesium). He's home now on insulin therapy because his pancreas is apparently completely non-functional.

Would any of your ideas be helpful for him or are they for people with type 2

IMVA believes its even better to supplement with whole food Vitamin C which is vastly more effecient that ascorbic acid as it contains all the co-factors necessary for absorption and delivery to needed sites. You can find more information on this in Dr. Sircus" Survival Medicine e-book.

http://www.naturalhub.com/natural_food_guide_fruit_vitamin_c.htm
says that an orange has 70 mg on average so to get 10 grams of Vit C that would be 143 oranges. Happy eating!
Much better is to try supplementing with ascorbic acid to bowel tolerance (gas, bloating, diarrhea).

Could you tell me what causes tinnitus and if it is common in diabetics. I have a severe sinus infection but was treated for a month on antibiotics for an ear infection. The tidal waves in my ears is driving me insane. Is this anything to do with being diabetic and are there any treatments.

Hi Frank,

Benfotiamin is taken in a range from 150 mg/day to upwards of 600 mg/day for severe peripheral neuropathy. The dosage depends on what you are treating and your individual response , but there is a wide range.
